We are delighted to offer children locally the opportunity earn unit based qualifications through the AQA.

We are currently enrolling students with an ECHP to join our 12 week course which offers bespoke animal care lessons and given the range of species we work with, we think completely unique in the UK.

We are currently a very small company so spaces are limited and will be subject to a waiting list.

We are hoping to increase our provision so we can offer more spaces to young people and let the animals do what they do best - teach us how to handle them.

Please note we are not able to offer full time schooling because we are a provision service and not an Ofsted registered school. All new students start at one hour a week. There may be opportunities for longer placements but this is subject to our availability and the LEA. All students will need to be on a school role. Unfortunately we are unable to offer places to students that have been permanently excluded from school.

Working with your child

At Animal School, we provide a safe and nurturing environment and promote holistic wellbeing through learning about animals.

Our aim within Alternative Provisions is to create a transformative learning experiences tailored to your child's individual needs.

We offer a 12-week course (with options to rebook where needed) and provide therapeutic animal interactions, lessons about gardening and nature and the chance to gain AQA unit based qualifications as they learn.

Our centre is in the heart of the countryside and our tutors also come from an artistic background and can offer students the chance to express themselves with art.

Our Animal School Folder

Each student receives their own Animal school folder to track progress, collect certificates, and reflect on their learning journey. The folder is colourful, fun and full of unique Animal School worksheets, drawn from 30 years of experience and not available anywhere else.

We use the AQA Unit Based Award Scheme to offer personalised, practical qualifications that recognise and celebrate every achievement.  This allows students to gain several qualifications while they learn without having to sit an exam.

We communicate weekly with parents, schools and the LEA and provide detailed reports of what your child has been up to so that we can make the most of their time here and tailor the lessons to their interests and needs.

Huge Range of Animals to work with.

Students will have the unique opportunity to meet and care for 26 different species of animals! We have farm animals like sheep and llamas, cute fluffy ones like guineapigs, mice and rabbits, reptiles; such as tortoises, lizards and snakes and more unusual animals like frogs, ravens, tarantulas and even a wallaby.

Our student-centred learning approach supports social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) by fostering emotional regulation, confidence-building, and life skills development.

We are currently working with Brighton and Hove Council to provide spaces for young people with an EHCP with view to working with other councils in the future.
